Back on Track (for now)

Saturday, 3/27/21 vs New York Rangers

Result: 2-1 Win!

Flyers goals:
Nolan Patrick (Gostisbehere, Couturier)
Sam Morin (Aube-Kubel, Raffl)

A win? What’s that??

Finally, the Flyers have a good result against the Rangers. The first win for this Flyers team following up four straight losses.

The Flyers have lost the last two games against the Rangers in embarrassing fashion. 9-0 and 8-3 results, the Flyers came into this game with many questions. Questions that may not have clear cut answers. Nonetheless, this team rallied together like they had promised.

Sam “The Man” Morin

After allowing (yet another) goal by Mika Zibanejad, the Flyers answered for the lone goal in the second period, scored by Nolan Patrick. Heading into the third with a 1-1 tie game, it would be Sam Morin who put the Flyers ahead in the final minutes of the game. It was his first NHL goal.

Sam Morin has had a long road to this game. Two ACL tears put his career in jeopardy. Fighting his way back, the organization moved him to winger, hoping to make use of his size and presence. Certainly an interesting experiment, it wouldn’t be long before he found himself back on the blue line.

Post-game, Morin spoke about the long road to the NHL, how he feels at home playing defense. And now with an impressive two games under his belt, he’s showing how determined he is to stay on the main roster.

Looking Ahead

The Flyers will look to build off of this win and excitement for Morin’s first NHL goal when they face off against the struggling Buffalo Sabres on Monday and again on Wednesday.

Buffalo, winless in the last 17 straight games, are setting the record for the longest losing streak in the shootout era of the NHL. Their last win was on February 23rd. The 17 game losing streak includes three losses to the Flyers, two in regulation and one in the shootout.
